MOON WATCHING
i don't know if any of you saw it, but yesterday was the night of the super moon lunar eclipse (aka the moon got pretty big and red). at around 10pm, me and my friend emily headed up to a hill to try and catch a glimpse of it... but to no surprise, it was shrouded by clouds, as things usually are in newfoundland. we got out of the car anyway and walked all around, and i almost toppled over the cliff because of the wind, but it was great all the same. it was so much fun - we overlooked the city with its gleaming lights, and there were huge floodlights around the hill so we made shadow puppets! at around 11pm, the moon still wasn't really showing, so we drove back to my house to hang out for a bit. we popped some popcorn, got our sleeping bags, and went outside to the backyard. with the wind whipping through the trees and homeshake in the background, it felt exactly like a coming-of-age film, in the best sense possible. you know those moments where it feels as if time has frozen, as if the world is empty and silent? that was how it felt like yesterday, staring at the blood red moon, in the wee hours of the morning. as minutes melted into hours, the homeshake into mac demarco, the excitement to sleepy ramblings, the moon slowly started to eclipse and the redness was gone. if you ever get a chance, take some time out of your life to skywatch with a friend (or two). there's just something about it, something undefinable... something beautiful. i highly recommend it. ♥
